PDF to Word

With the layout kept (the default), like the PDF: every block of text sits where it was, in the font size, weight, slant and colour the PDF used, and the page's rules, boxes, logos and pictures are behind it as one picture per page - so an invoice or a form opens in Word as it looked, and every word is still text you can edit. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

For text you will rewrite. Paragraphs reflows the content into a plain document - paragraphs, headings where a line stands out, pictures between them - that repaginates as you type; Lines keeps every line on its own row. Neither keeps the page's look; the layout mode does.

Only with a text layer. A scan that has been through the OCR tool converts like any other file; a scan without one has no text to give - the file list says so and points at OCR.

The PDF's own fonts are not copied into the document (they usually aren't licensed for that). Each run keeps its size, bold and italic, and gets the Word font of the same name where there is one - Times New Roman, Arial, Calibri, Courier New and the like - or a standard family of the same kind otherwise, so Word opens it on any computer.
