How to make a PDF open fast on the web (Fast Web View): a step-by-step guide

A long PDF behind a link usually shows nothing until the whole file has arrived. A linearized PDF - Acrobat calls it Fast Web View - is ordered so the first page comes first: the reader shows it at once and fetches the rest as you read. Linearize PDF rewrites a file that way. Pages, text and pictures stay exactly as they are; only the order of the bytes changes. It all happens in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Tóm tắt
- Drop your PDFs on the page, or press Add files.
- Check the list: each file says whether it will be linearized or already is.
- Type the password of any locked file.
- Press Linearize PDF: the file is saved to your device straight away.
Add the files
Drop the PDFs anywhere on the page, or press Add files. The tool has no settings - each file is judged as it arrives. The list says Will be linearized, Already linearized or Password needed, and the rail tallies them. An already linearized file is skipped, since a copy would only look like something happened.

When it is worth it
- Worth it for a PDF that is served from a website or sent as a link: a catalogue, a price list, a long report on your site.
- No difference for a file opened from the disk - it is all there already.
- Not smaller: linearizing doesn't shrink the file; Compress PDF does.
Run it last: most other tools rewrite the file, which undoes the linearization. Compress first, then linearize.
Linearize and save
Press Linearize PDF. The file is saved to your device at once with "_linearized" in its name - several files together as a ZIP. A file with a password to open is included once you click it in the list and type its password.
Limits
Without an account, and with a free one, you can linearize two files in a run, each up to 15 MB. With Pro there is no limit on the number or the size.
What next?
- Make it smaller first? Compress PDF.
- A file that doesn't open? Repair PDF.
- Several files into one before publishing? Merge PDF.
